Shropshire Warriors Juniors Vs Worcester Wolves

Shropshire vs Worcester Wolves 60 : 58
Finally the Shropshire Juniors got their first win against a strong Worcester Wolves side. Worcester, being ahead of Shropshire in the league coming into this game let Shropshire know that they had a challenege ahead of them going into this game. Shropshire, however talented, still needed to find the winning formula after loosing their first 2 games of the season.
The warriors came out strong in the first quarter rushing out to an early lead. Defensive rebouding, which had been Shropshires biggest flaw in the game against Mansfield the previous weekend was great in the first quarter, Worcester only managing 3 offensive rebounds. Shropshire also started the game relatively well offensively, running though their offence and running out to an early lead. It looked like the Warriors were going to be able to take control of the game.
In the second quarter however things turned pear shaped. The Warriors stopped boxing out leading to numerous offensive rebounds for mansfield (15 for the game) which they were converting into points. The Wolves also started to press which caused lots of problems for the prodominently "big men" positioned Warriors. With Ben Parry as the lone guard on the court Shropshire continually turned the ball over and were being rushed on offence by Worcesters press.

In the second half things didnt get any better for the Warriors and turnover were being commited all over the court. Shropshire seemed determined to throw the ball to the Wolves players much to the frustration of Coach Dieterich.
With things looking down in the fourth quarter, as if the Warriors were going to loose, the players decided to step up and hustle out the win. A strange quarter with dubious referee calls, turnovers all over the place (and at one stage the referee trying to join into the game!!!!!) made for an exciting end to the match with Shropshire coming out on top. Shaun (11 points, 10 boards, 5 blocks) was a defensive force, blocking shots and grabbing rebounds all over the place. Jacob (12 boards), Kenny (10 boards), Robbie (5 assists, 5 boards) and ben (5 assists, 6 rebounds) all made big plays in the final quarter to help us win the game.
CO MVP's are Ben Parry and Shaun Skelly. Ben, always our best scorer, was also arguably the best player on the court today, he took care of the ball alot better this week and played a good all around game. Without Shaun controlling the boards and blocking shots in the fourth Shropshire would never had one this game. Jacob Swaine also had a good case to be named mvp this week, leading the team in rebounding. Kenny and Robbie also had great games but need to take care of the ball better.
As a team Shropshire need to take care of the ball alot better and rebound consistantly. Not just throughout spurts in the game. However, all in all, it was a good performance and we hope Shropshire can stick to winning ways.
